Scale explains why a cosmetics-only app gets compared against a dual-scope one at all. Yuka reports 28 million users in the United States and 85 million worldwide on its own press page, so it sets the expectation for every scanner that follows it, including this one.

What a single 0–10 rating cannot carry
A rating is a ranking device. It places one product against others quickly, and it does not record which entry on the label produced the placement, which published list that entry came from, or what happened to the names the tool could not parse. Those three facts are what a sceptical reader usually wants next.
The parsing point is the one nobody advertises. INCIDecoder publishes a page explaining why ingredient matching breaks on trade names and truncated names, which is an unusually direct admission for this field. LabelPeek’s answer is to print the count: matched, recognised but not on the list, and not recognised at all.

Comedogenicity makes the same point legally rather than technically. Notice that the last two rows have no barcode entry. Text-based checking exists precisely for the moment a scan comes back empty, and it is the only method that works on a sample sachet, a travel-size carton or a photograph of the back of a bottle.

Where LabelPeek is the wrong choice
LabelPeek is the wrong tool for anyone who wants a product verdict. The skin checker answers a single question — is anything in this list on the published pore-clogging list it prints — and it never resolves that into good, bad or a number. Readers who want one figure per bottle are better served by a rating app.
It is also the wrong tool at the shelf today. The web checkers read only text you paste in by hand, there is no product database behind them, and the app was not listed in any store as of 10 August 2026. Camera reading of a label does not exist here yet, for anyone, including us.
The two checkers are separate, and neither covers the other’s ground. The food one matches a pasted label against 74 markers of industrial processing; the skin one matches against the pore-clogging list. Pasting a moisturiser into the food checker returns markers of processing, which is a true answer to a question nobody asked.
And it will disagree with other cosmetic tools, deliberately. Because no regulator certifies a comedogenic list and published lists contradict one another, the pore-clogging ingredients checker prints the whole list it uses on the page. Disagreement between two tools with different lists is expected, not a bug in either.
Who should stay on Think Dirty
Stay on Think Dirty if the job is a fast verdict on a physical product you can scan. Nothing on the web replaces a working camera scanner in a store, and swapping a two-second rating for a paste-and-read workflow is a poor trade when speed is what you actually need at the shelf.
Two more cases favour staying. If you buy mostly widely distributed brands, the coverage gap that sends people looking rarely bites. And if you want cosmetics and nothing else in one place, a cosmetics-only app avoids the food material that a dual-scope tool inevitably carries.
